Spend your summer making a difference in students’ lives! The Summer Reading Program is a Science of Reading (SoR) curriculum designed to support 15,000 New Mexico students, from incoming kindergarteners to outgoing eighth graders. This program aims to strengthen literacy skills through evidence-based practices and promote long-term academic success. Apply today and take part in this important state funded program.
Program Objectives
- Improve literacy outcomes for all participating students.
- Measure students’ reading progress during and upon program completion.
- Build confidence and competence in literacy skills to support academic achievement, high school graduation, and college and career readiness.
Instructor Information
- The program offers structured literacy curriculum training and coaching to those interested in becoming instructors.
- Applicants do not need to be licensed teachers—anyone committed to improving literacy outcomes for students and capable of planning and implementing a Science of Reading curriculum is encouraged to apply.
- Instructors can potentially continue working as a literacy instructor through the school year.


Program Features
- 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio.
- Monday through Friday.
- 4 hours of instructional time with students each day.1 hour a day dedicated to instructor planning.

Instructor Compensation
- $35 per hour.
- Commitment required: June 2 through June 27, 2025, for a minimum of 25 hours per week plus training.

Training Details
- Initial in-person training will be conducted at various locations across New Mexico in May.
- Lodging, breakfast, and lunch will be provided during in-person training.
- Instructors will be compensated at $35 per hour for both in-person and synchronous training sessions.
